Sustainability has become a part of everyday business in New York City. Businesses across the five boroughs are looking for practical ways to reduce their environmental impact.
That’s where Action Carting comes in. Action’s approach is built around smarter systems and cleaner technologies that help businesses divert and dispose of waste streams more responsibly.
The Electric Truck: Cleaner Streets Start Here
Sustainability doesn’t just happen after waste leaves your property; it starts at the curb. Action has taken a big step forward with its 100% electric collection vehicle, featuring trash icon, Oscar the Grouch. Action is proud to partner with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street to bring awareness to investments in sustainable technologies that benefit customers and the community.
Unlike traditional diesel trucks, this 100% electric vehicle produces zero tailpipe emissions and runs much more quietly. That’s a big win for neighborhoods where early morning pickups are part of the routine. Less noise and cleaner air all contribute to a better experience for NYC businesses and the communities around them. Action’s electric truck also employs regenerative braking technology, which transforms energy from frequent stops on collection routes into additional battery power.
Smarter Routes, Smaller Footprint
Another way Action improves sustainability is through efficient route planning. Using advanced logistics tools, Action’s team designs collection routes that reduce unnecessary mileage, limit idling, and keep trucks moving as efficiently as possible.
When you multiply small efficiency gains across an entire fleet operating seven days a week, the result is a meaningful reduction in fuel use and emissions. For customers, it also means consistent, reliable service, backed by thoughtful planning rather than guesswork.
Waste-By-Rail: A Better Way to Move Waste
One of Action’s biggest sustainability advantages is its waste-by-rail system. Instead of relying entirely on trucks to haul waste long distances, Action uses rail transport.
That might not sound flashy, but the impact is significant. Rail transport is approximately 4x more fuel-efficient than trucking, which means a 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and less road congestion.
For customers, the best part is that this all happens behind the scenes. Your waste is handled in a more sustainable way, without changing how you operate day to day.
Waste Diversion: Less Landfill, More Recovery
Of course, sustainability isn’t just about how waste is collected and transported; it’s also about where it ends up.
Action’s commitment to waste diversion is backed by real infrastructure. Together with its parent company, Action operates seven recycling facilities across the tri-state area, including two highly advanced Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in New Jersey and a key facility in the Bronx serving New York City. These facilities use state-of-the-art systems to efficiently separate materials like paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, and glass, ensuring that more recyclables are recovered and prepared for reuse.
The scale of this operation is massive. Action’s North Arlington, NJ facility alone is capable of processing up to 50 tons of material every hour. Across our seven facilities, we diverted 294,519 tons of fiber (paper/cardboard), plastic, and metal in 2025.
A Smarter Way Forward
Sustainable operations and environmental responsibility are at the foundation of Action’s business. Powered by state-of-the-art recycling facilities, rail infrastructure, electric vehicles, and smarter operations, Action approaches business with a duty to safety, efficiency, compliance, and environmental responsibility.
For NYC businesses looking to do their part to lower their environmental impact without adding complexity, Action has you covered.
