Commercial Recycling

Effective recycling solutions are a bedrock of the Action Environmental value proposition. Across Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, we go beyond simple waste removal to help our customers achieve their lofty sustainability and waste diversion goals. Our recycling facilities leverage innovative technology to process fiber, metal, plastic, and glass through both single stream and dual stream collection methods. We also provide comprehensive recycling for organics, construction debris, and specialty items—including batteries, fluorescent lamps, and mercury-containing devices. Additionally, we offer bulk collection and hard drive shredding for electronics.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Action and parent company Interstate Waste Services own seven recycling facilities in the tri-state area, including two of the most cutting-edge facilities in the region. Our award-winning Bronx Material Recovery Facility (MRF) uses sophisticated optical sorting technology to process and separate recyclable materials, which are then compressed into bales, preparing them for sale to manufacturers who transform them into new products.

Our new North Arlington, NJ MRF began operations in Fall 2024. This new facility is our most advanced yet, representing our ongoing investment in the communities we serve. Engineered to increase capture rates from the region’s waste stream, the North Arlington facility revolves around an ultra-modern Machinex system that is capable of processing up to 50 tons of material hourly.

NYC Recycling Requirements

In New York City, all businesses are required by law to recycle paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and metals, and must adhere to separation, set-out and collection requirements.
